Rose’s Ramblings

Hi, Readers. Welcome to Thursday’s Cabot News. It’s been a ‘muggy’ day here with * very * heavy rain for about an hour this afternoon. Muggy as in humid, stifling heat. The air has cleared considerably now and a nice coo, refreshing breeze is blowing.

I had a very bizarre mishap last week as I was on the way to Grand Falls with my Mom for an eye appointment. Before I got out of town I had blown a tire...a very unusual incident...a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. <smile> As I came up to a construction area (they’re building a new Tim Horton’s coffee shop here) there was a truck load of bricks being unloaded. The fork lift operator was taking a break in the lift with the forks resting over the edge of the pavement. As I passed my car received an awful jolt. A split second before it happened I realized the prongs were where they shouldn’t be and I was going to hit. I pulled off and got out afraid to look, not knowing what damage I had done. A prong had hit my right front tire popping off the hubcap, tearing a 4 inch gash in my tire and a chunk out of the wheel rim. I couldn’t get a tire and rim in town so drove to GF on my temporary (spare) tire. Got a tire there but no rim so had to drive back on my spare. That happened last Friday and I finally got it fixed today...they had to order a rim flown in from out of the province. Now, what are the odds of something like that happening? Some days it’s better not to get out of bed, eh? I was talking to the man responsible today and he was quite torn up over his action and with the thought of how serious it could have been had the prongs been higher. They could have ripped through the side of my car, perhaps killing my Mom. Shudder, shudder. Of course, the company involved took full responsibility for the accident and paid for the repairs. I got my Mom to her appointment 20 minutes late. <smile> One never knows...

Again, a reminder to you to be careful how you word your a..ds. Filters are picking up sooooo many words and phrases now. If you are a serious marketer, it’s important for you to know these things. I have to edit many of the a~ds I run for co-op customers. Lots of them come in with the ‘f’ word that means you ‘don’t pay anything’ used as many as 5 times in an ~ad~. Filters are even picking up the disguises now, so you must be innovative to get around this. The bottom line is, if your a~ds are filled with triggering words, it prevents newsletters and ezines from reaching the maximum number of readers...which means, in the long run, the advertiser loses...and that’s you. So, readers, be wise...improvise. <smile>

 One of the most interesting places I visited was Mystic

Seaport in Connecticut.  It's an old whaling seaport town

and you can see how they lived back in the 'olden days.'

I even got to take a tour of a whaling ship.  Makes you kinda

thankful for today’s conveniences.  LOL

This Week's Healthy Eating Tip -

There's one more very important part of living a healthy

lifestyle, and being able to each whatever you want and

not gain weight. Do you know what it is?

Get active!

Clean the house, take a walk, walk the dog, go swimming,

tubing or water-skiing, don't park in the closest place,

work in the garden... c'mon - summer is too short to

waste indoors! Spend at least half an hour outdoors

every day doing something.

This Week's Healthy Recipe-

Vegetable Kabobs-

4 small red potatoes, quartered,
2 Medium Zucchini cut into 2 inch pieces,
8 cherry tomatoes, and
1 red onion cut into 1 inch pieces

Alternate vegetables on to 4 skewers.

Brush Kabobs with olive oil and season with
salt & pepper.

Grill for 9 - 10 minutes or until
golden brown and vegetables are crisp-tender.

Serves 4 normal eaters. In my house probably 2.

Goes great with a grilled chicken breast, or steak.

Add some cut up fruit, or jello, or applesauce for

something cool.
