Rose’s Ramblings

From Springdale, welcome to Thursday’s Cabot News. “It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood”. Sun is shining, flowers are blooming, kids are having fun. I took advantage of this ‘great to be alive’ kind of a day to wash bed quilts and hang them on the clothesline to dry. Mmmmmm...they smell soooo nice after airing on the line for an hour.

This little town is so peaceful it’s hard for us to imagine the horrors some of our dear readers are experiencing in the UK this morning. All we can do is watch it on TV and send up a prayer for those involved. The violence generated by some people in our world is incomprehensible. Please be assured our thoughts are with you.

Try the delicious fruit and veggie salad in Carole’s Kitchen today. Just the thing for those sizzling summer days. And, a bonus...it’s healthy!

Again, a reminder to you to be careful how you word your a..ds. Filters are picking up sooooo many words and phrases now. If you are a serious marketer, it’s important for you to know these things. I have to edit many of the a~ds I run for co-op customers. Lots of them come in with the ‘f’ word that means you ‘don’t pay anything’ used as many as 5 times in an ~ad~. Filters are even picking up the disguises now, so you must be innovative to get around this. The bottom line is, if your a~ds are filled with triggering words, it prevents newsletters and ezines from reaching the maximum number of readers...which means, in the long run, the advertiser loses...and that’s you. So, readers, be wise...improvise. <smile>

Be Your Mother

Tell yourself that you can't have a treat until you've

eaten all of your fruits and vegetables for the day.

Once you've eaten at least five- 1/2 cup servings of

fruits  and vegetables for the day, you're entitled to

a little treat!

This Week's Healthy Recipe-

Knock out a couple of serving of fruits and vegetables
with this cool and fruity salad.

Citrus Spinach Salad

1 -10 oz package spinach, washed and torn into bite
sized pieces.

2 cups fresh orange sections or canned mandarin
orange slices, drained.

1 medium red onion, sliced

1 cup Italian flavored croutons

1/2 cup prepared red wine vinaigrette

Arrange spinach, orange slices, onion and croutons on
4 plates.

Pour dressing over top.

The worried housewife sprang to the telephone when it rang.
The relief in her face was obvious when she heard a kindly
voice in her ear.

"It's mother," the voice said. "How are you, darling?
What kind of a day are you having?"

"Oh, mother," said the housewife, breaking into bitter tears,
"I've had such a bad day. The baby won't eat and the
washing machine broke down. I haven't had a chance to go
shopping, and besides, I've just sprained my ankle and I
have to hobble around. On top of that, the house is a mess
and I'm supposed to have two couples to dinner tonight."

Her mother was very sympathetic. "Oh, darling," she said,
"sit down, relax, and close your eyes. I'll be over in half an
hour. I'll do your shopping, clean up the house, and cook
your dinner for you. I'll feed the baby and I'll call a
repairman I know who'll be at your house to fix the
washing machine promptly. Now stop crying. I'll do everything.
In fact, I'll even call George at the office and tell him
he ought to come home and help out for once."

"George?" said the housewife. "Who's George?"

"Why, George! Your husband! Wait a minute, is this
555-1374?

"No, It's 555-1375."

"Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I have the wrong number."

There was a short pause, and the housewife said,
"Does this mean you're not coming over?"
