Rose’s Ramblings

From Springdale, on the island of Newfoundland and Labrador, welcome to Thursday’s Cabot News.

Did I mention it’s caplin weather? Ummmm...guess I did. Well, the kids had a time last night dipping up the little fish along the shoreline. The caplin run has always held a fascination for children. I guess it’s the sheer numbers of these little critters that astounds them. Stories are told of cod in such numbers, during the time of John Cabot’s landing in Newfoundland in 1497, that they could be dipped up by the basket full. They’re far from as plentiful as that today. In days gone by we had a flourishing cod fishery. Sad to say, it’s not that way anymore and probably never will be again. To think that in a land that was founded on the fishing industry, we are no longer allowed to catch a fish for our own table. Times have changed.

Don’t miss Carole’s cool Tropical Blender Blast...mmmmm...sounds  deeeelicious. I’ve gotta try it.

Again, a reminder to you to be careful how you word your a..ds. Filters are picking up sooooo many words and phrases now. If you are a serious marketer, it’s important for you to know these things. I have to edit many of the a~ds I run for co-op customers. Lots of them come in with the ‘f’ word that means you ‘don’t pay anything’ used as many as 5 times in an ~ad~. Filters are even picking up the disguises now, so you must be innovative to get around this. The bottom line is, if your a~ds are filled with triggering words, it prevents newsletters and ezines from reaching the maximum number of readers...which means, in the long run, the advertiser loses...and that’s you. So, readers, be wise...improvise. <smile>

Drop the Pop.

If you're a pop drinker, you're almost guaranteed to lose

weight if you would just replace the pop with something

else. Plus, in the summer you need something that will

quench your thirst and hydrate you. Pop has never been

a good choice for that.

Drink juices, lemonade, flavored waters, ice tea, or have

a smoothie to satisfy both your thirst and your sweet

tooth. If you crave the carbonation, have a flavored

carbonated water. The blackberry one is really good!

This Week's Healthy Recipe-

Tropical Blender Blast

1 ripe banana quartered
1 –8oz. can crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup 2% milk
½ cup fresh or frozen strawberries, or raspberries

Put everything in blender. Cover and blend until thick
and smooth.

Serve immediately.

Serves 2
