From Springdale, on the island of Newfoundland and Labrador, welcome to Thursday’s Cabot News.
Well, it’s capelin weather here. That’s the time when these little fish come rolling in on the beaches by the thousands and they can be dipped up with a dip net. http://www.coastalsafari.com/CAPELIN.htm Capelin are food for the codfish as well as a tasty dish for anyone who likes them. They can be dipped in flour and fried with a bit of salt and pepper. A favorite for the older generation of Newfoundlanders is to dry them in the sun and roast them in the oven...tasty if you like a salty delicacy...and if you can handle the smell which is quite pungent. <smile>
Again, a reminder to you to be careful how you word your a..ds. Filters are picking up sooooo many words and phrases now. If you are a serious marketer, it’s important for you to know these things. I have to edit many of the a~ds I run for co-op customers. Lots of them come in with the ‘f’ word that means you ‘don’t pay anything’ used as many as 5 times in an ~ad~. Filters are even picking up the disguises now, so you must be innovative to get around this. The bottom line is, if your a~ds are filled with triggering words, it prevents newsletters and ezines from reaching the maximum number of readers...which means, in the long run, the advertiser loses...and that’s you. So, readers, be wise...improvise. <smile>

This Week's Healthy Eating Tip -

This is the time of year when everyone likes ice-cream,
but you think you can't have it, or shouldn't.
Baloney!
Get some Edy's Grand Light French Vanilla, and top it
with fresh sliced strawberries. You'll get another serving
of fruit for the day. Just remember moderation on the ice-
cream. One scoop.
Healthy Choice is pretty good too, but Edy's is on sale
more often :)
Just don't get the cheap varieties. They'll leave you
feeling deprived, and who wants that?
Recipe:
It's a law
that we have to have steak and potatoes on
Father's Day, isn't it? :)
I've made
this one with chuck steak too. As long as you get
it in the marinade the night before, it will be flavorful and
juicy. (Just remember, a normal healthy portion is about
6 ounces.)
Sesame Sirloin Steak
1/4 cup soy
sauce
2 Tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 Tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Dash to 1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
3/4 lb. boneless sirloin steak about 3/4 inch thick
In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the soy sauce,
sesame seeds, garlic, oil, brown sugar, pepper and hot
pepper sauce.
Pierce steak on both sides with a fork. Place steak in the
bag. Seal and turn to coat. Refrigerate for 8 hours, or
overnight.
Drain and discard marinade. Grill the steak, covered, over
medium heat for 7-9 minutes on each side or until meat
reaches desired doneness.
Serves 2.
