Rose’s Ramblings

From Springdale, on the island of Newfoundland and Labrador, welcome to Thursday’s issue of Cabot News.

I’ve just returned from a very sad visit to the funeral home here in town. A former (teacher) colleague and good friend of mine has just lost her only daughter at 28 years old to cancer. It was 6 months from the time she was diagnosed until her death. How sad. She was a beautiful girl, but there is absolutely no resemblance left to the girl she was before her sickness. What a dreadful disease cancer is!

Again, a reminder to you to be careful how you word your a..ds. Filters are picking up sooooo many words and phrases now. If you are a serious marketer, it’s important for you to know these things. I have to edit many of the a~ds I run for co-op customers. Lots of them come in with the ‘f’ word that means you ‘don’t pay anything’ used as many as 5 times in an ~ad~. Filters are even picking up the disguises now, so you must be innovative to get around this. The bottom line is, if your a~ds are filled with triggering words, it prevents newsletters and ezines from reaching the maximum number of readers...which means, in the long run, the advertiser loses...and that’s you. So, readers, be wise...improvise. <smile>

This Week's Healthy Eating Tip -

You know, thin people think differently. That's a fact.

Yes, they eat anything they want. They want a piece of

chocolate, they eat a piece of chocolate (not a one

pound box). The secret is in moderation and balance.

If you ate unhealthy one day, go back to eating healthy

the next day. One day won't hurt you if you are eating

well most of the time.

Studies have found that thin people naturally compensate

after eating a bad meal, where heavier people continued

to eat the same amount.

Just like many things in life, if you want to succeed at

something, study how someone who already has what you

want got it. If you want to be thin, think like a thin person.

Sounds too easy, doesn't it?

It is easy. It just takes practice until you develop the habits.

Recipe:

Broccoli Salad

If you’ve never had this one, you are really missing out!
This is an old time favorite for summer get togethers,
but it's so easy, you can treat yourself once in a while!

This is a light version, but still tastes great.

Dinner Size-

1 bunch broccoli, cut into bite sized pieces (1 1/2 - 2 cups)
4 or 5 pieces bacon, fried crisp and crumbled
½ cup purple onion, diced
½ cup raisins
½ cup low fat Miracle Whip
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoons red wine vinegar

Mix first 4 ingredients in large bowl.

Mix Miracle whip, sugar, and red wine vinegar.

Pour into broccoli mix and mix well.

Chill.

Makes about 4 - 1/2 cup servings. About 225 calories.

Party Size-

2 bunches broccoli, cut into bite sized pieces (3 cups)
8 to 10 slices bacon, fried crisp and crumbled
1 small purple onion, diced
1 cup raisins
1 cup low fat Miracle Whip
1/4 cup sugar
2 Tablespoons red wine vinegar

Mix first 4 ingredients in large bowl.

Mix Miracle Whip, sugar, and red wine vinegar.

Pour into broccoli mix and mix well.

Chill.

Makes 8 - 1/2 cup servings.

*You can buy resealable containers of raisins so
they're on hand when you want one of these salads.

And never pick up my clothes from the floor.

Dash off to the movies and not wash a dish.
I'll plead for allowance whenever I wish.

I'll stuff up the plumbing and deluge the floor.
As soon as they've mopped it I'll flood it some more.

And when they correct me, I'll lie down and cry,
Kicking and screaming, not a tear in my eye.

I'll take all their pencils and flashlights, and then
When they buy new ones, I'll take them again.

I'll spill glasses of milk to complete every meal,
Eat my banana and just drop the peel.

Put toys on the table, spill jam on the floor,
I'll break lots of dishes as though I were four.

What Fun I shall have, what Joy it will be
to live with my children....
the way they lived with me!
